Since LGND was founded in 2019 it was clear that many unions wanted to be more progressive on climate issues. At Labour Party conference that year we saw that there is broad union support for a radical Green New Deal which centres a worker-led transition.
Since then we have been working to organise across and within trade unions to build the grassroots demand for a GND, preparing workers for workplace campaigns and the broader fight against the fossil fuel industry.
Recently the Trade Union team has helped establish member-led GND groups in unions, run just transition workshops for branches, collaborated with other union climate groups, run workshops for local LGND groups, supported activists to get involved in their union and are working on a just transition project with factory workers at Rolls Royce.
